Valentine's Day is one of the few holidays that we do a themed art project at home. This is a direct result of the peer pressure to send in Valentine cards to school. Even though I like to look around the internet at others' fabulous crafting projects, in my home I much prefer simple arts & crafts in which my kids do most of the work! I love the handmade valentines Kiddo made.

When Kiddo announced he wanted to make valentines for his class we simply gathered our various art supplies.
What you need:
- Squares of construction paper in various colors
- Heart shaped doilies or hearts cut from decorative paper
- Glitter glue
- Stickers
I did cut out the squares and hearts since I could tell my 5 year old would not be able to focus on repeatedly cutting out the same shapes. Kiddo then decorated them all by himself. He glued the hearts onto the squares and adorned them with glitter glue and stickers. In fact, I especially like how each valentine includes blobs of glitter glue.
They might not be featured on the pages of a beautiful crafting magazine, but they were simple, kid made and -- most importantly -- required minimal parental supervision.
For another, even easier Valentine card idea see our last minute handmade valentines. Another good alternative to store-bought cards is to print out a Valentine coloring page for all your preschool friends.

LOL - as I read this, my boys are sitting at the kitchen table using markers, glitter glue, etc. to decorate simple paper hearts I cut out for them. Yes, their valentines are simple as well, but like you I much prefer ones that they've made themselves. 🙂

Very neat. I went with a similar but even more simplified approach of handing Anna 24 pretty cards from Target (8 cards with envelopes for $1), various stickers, crayons, stampers and markers. She is working diligently making 4 cards per day, and hopefully soon we can do something more interesting with our time in the evening.

I love how he decorated his Valentines! They came out great. My kids begged for the cheap, unoriginal store bought Valentines this year and I gave in.

Love these little valentines!
Needless to say, Ben showed no interest in making valentines...so, I'm especially envious of Kiddo's!
