If you've been following our monthly coloring page series for the last few years, you know that illustrator and author, Melanie Hope Greenberg, is our go-to mermaid gal. This month's mermaid statue coloring page celebrates Melanie's signature mythical creature as well as her home city! (Yes, yes, we know the Statue of Liberty is technically in New Jersey...)
Why is Melanie's symbol the mermaid you ask? Well, it's because of her book, Mermaids on Parade! Mermaids on Parade celebrates the summer solstice Mermaid Parade in New York City's Coney Island, where, incidentally you will have a good view of the Statute of Liberty.

But this coloring page proves that mermaids are not just for summer. 😉 Print it out, color it with your kids and talk about how mermaids spark the imagination and the Statue of Liberty stands for our values. After all, it is the great imagination of this country's citizens that helps us see the possibilities of welcoming everyone, no matter what their background.
Am I stretching your credulity with my attempt to link mermaids and liberty? Of course not! You have kids and know all about their infinite ability to make connections between seemingly disparate elements. 🙂
This is not our only mermaid-NYC themed coloring page! No, no, no! Be sure to also get our Mermaid Skyline coloring page.
Or, if you prefer something a little more realistic... this New York City skyline coloring page is just the thing.
