This adorable city and country coloring page from children's book author and illustrator Melanie Hope Greenberg is the latest in our monthly series of free, printable coloring pages.
The coloring page features dueling landscapes. On top is daytime in a bucolic countryside retreat complete with cute house and dreamy wishing well. If they look closely, your kids can find a couple of rabbits up to no good.
Below the country scene is nighttime in the city. A horse and carriage clip clops in the park with high rise buildings peeking above the trees in the background.

Both Melanie and I encourage kids to create their own art from their boundless imaginations, but it cannot be denied that coloring pages are useful for restaurants and quick entertainment. Are you in the NYC area? You can cheer Melanie on in the Bike the Branches Brooklyn Public Library tour, and then head into a local branch to read one of her books.
Turn the city and country coloring page into an activity:
Many of Melanie's coloring pages can double as activity pages. I think it would be cute to cut these two scenes out, glue them to cardboard and create a backdrop to a play scene, the way we did with Melanie's cityscape coloring pages.
You could even turn her multicultural kids into stick puppets or include the 3D pizza parlor and school.

Thanks for the fun write up! What a cool idea to use the panels as stage backdrops. Finger puppets can apply here as well. Enjoy!

Coloring was one of my all-time favorite things to do as a kid. I can't handle the smell of the crayons anymore *sigh* soooo...
And as always, clever ideas, Erica! 😀
