Learning how to use scissors is good practice to develop children's fine motor skills, and strengthen their hand and finger muscles. This easy cutting activity is easy to set up and is a great way to supplement occupational therapy sessions at home.

Instructions
For the grown-up: Cut construction paper into long strips of paper. Using the marker draw various lines on the strips. You can make straight lines, diagonal lines and zig-zags.
Leave one of the strips blank.
For the child:
Using the child sized scissors cut along the lines.
On the blank strip, make cuts however you want!
For the straw cutting activity, the only instructions are to snip the straws into pieces.
This is brilliant because when you cut the straw it pops off wildly and thus is highly entertaining. Also, you can use one of the straws to blow all the little pieces all over the place. Sure it makes a mess, but that's why brooms were invented. Plus, sweeping is a good practical life activity for kids.
Be sure to save the little bits of straws to add to your collage scrap art materials box.
