With April being Earth Month (April 22 is Earth Day), many kids are learning about the environment, especially the wondrous and vast oceans and their ecosystems. Be sure to include this under-the-sea coloring page by children's book author and illustrator, Melanie Hope Greenberg, as part of your celebration with little ones.
This sea life coloring page with whale, dolphins, fish and other creatures comes from the picture book, It's My Earth, Too, by Kathleen Krull and illustrated by Melanie. We even have an earth coloring page from the cover of the book here on the blog, too. That illustration also made a cameo on a Children's Defense Fund poster!
It’s My Earth, Too was originally published in 1992 by Doubleday Books for Young Readers. You might be surprised to learn that the book publishing industry is actually not very environmentally friendly, but this book was printed on recycled paper with soybean oil inks. There was no paper dust jacket, and water-soluble glues were used in the binding. Melanie and Kathleen fought hard for the eco-friendly publishing method, and the resulting book is a joy to hold and read. It's also available as an ebook.
