Want a fun and unique way to encourage pretend play this season? These Halloween finger puppets are just the ticket. Your kids will love them more than your typical printable puppet because they get to color their own.
Children's book author and illustrator, Melanie Hope Greenberg has been designing exclusive coloring pages for this site for six years! That's a lot of coloring pages and she keeps coming up with fun new ideas for you like these cute printable Halloween finger puppets.
Your kids will love making the spooky Halloween house, sweet candy corn, ghoulish skeleton, scary Frankenstein and the bat, ready for take-off. After constructing these cuties, everyone can make up stories, sing spooky songs or just slip the DIY puppets on their fingers and take a dance around the house!
In fact, perhaps these spooky fellows can take up residence in the Haunted House your children made from our haunted house template, or as one of our fun Halloween STEM activity ideas!
How to Make Halloween Finger Puppets
First, download and print (by clicking on the following link you agree to our terms of service* see below) --> Halloween Printable Puppets .
Next, color the puppets anyway you like. No need to use "realistic" colors or stay in the lines!
After coloring, cut out the puppets (for adult fingers you may need to cut the tabs slightly longer than as drawn)
Wrap the lower tabs into a circle and tape closed. To get the perfect fit, tape the puppet while it is on your child's finger.
Finally, slip on the finger puppets and tell a spooky or not-so spooky Halloween story!
Make Finger Puppets All Year Long!
Get out a blank sheet out of paper and encourage your children to make and design their own finger puppets. The basic concept is to add tabs to any appropriately-sized illustration.
I bet your kids will come up with some great ideas. They could add a witch, a pumpkin or a ghost to the cast of Halloween characters. Or, children can draw creatures, people or objects to suit any season of the year!
Tip: For the wider puppets, if you want them to stand out from the fingers and have a flat, rather than a rounded appearance, cut just slightly on the tabs on either side underneath the main drawing. In the above photo you can see how we did this for the haunted house finger puppet.
