Great blend of narrative and facts.

I have had Beauty and the Beak on my to read list for a couple of months...I plan to get to it once school is out. I love that you always include a few books that are new to me...

A few other books I have really enjoyed: The Tragic Tale of the Great Auk by Jan Thornhill, Nic Bishop's books such as Lizards (his photography is amazing!), Joyce Sidman's books such as Ubiquitous which combine nonfiction and poetry, Sea Otter Heroes: The Predators that Saved an Ecosystem by Patricia Newman, Best Foot Forward by Ingo Arndt, Parrots over Puerto Rico by Susan Roth, Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner and several others.

My daughter (5yo) likes nonfiction, but doesn’t like books just full of little facts. She wants a story. We really like Walker Nature Storybooks because they are written like stories. We also just finished reading aloud Kit: Adventures of a Racoon by Shirley Wood. It is a chapter book that follows the fictional life of an animal but in a nonfiction way. The animals don’t talk and life could be very tough. The author has written a few about different animals, a beaver, coyote etc.
