Have you read Wishtree by Katherine Applegate yet? It seems like it would fit on this list.

I'm reading it aloud now with my 10, 8 and 6 year olds. Some humor, silly puns, and an interesting choice of narrator, yet there are some surprisingly deep, and important messages woven through the story -- inclusiveness, loving your neighbor and the idea that we are all connected... it's getting my kids in the Valentine spirit 🙂
