Hi Nicole, In fact I did just recently read that article. It was such an important reminder that no matter how much we try to be inclusive we must continue to listen to the perspective of the people who are being represented in the books we read. I have in the past deleted books from my lists, or added in a caveat based on alternative perspectives presented to me. Thanks for leaving this comment, I'm going to add in into my review blurb up above.

Maybe you have seen the controversy. I feel very torn as a librarian because kids love all things by Raina. I appreciate the racial and cultural diversity in many of your book lists so wanted to make sure you were aware of this perspective.

I especially love hearing about nonfiction graphic novels because the libraries I go to have all the fiction graphic novels in one place, but the nonfiction ones are scattered throughout the nonfiction section. My kids love the Hazardous Tales series! My favorite graphic nonfiction is Annie Sullivan and the Trials of Helen Keller.

My kids (ages 10, 10 and 13) loved Amulet! Great suggestion.

It's so beautiful and interesting. My son got into it around second grade, but I think it's intended for about sixth grade and up. I enjoy it as much as he does.
